Welcome 2013

Because of an idea by Beth Munroe (of Mrs Pugsley's Emporium fame), we celebrated the dawn of a new year in a unique way last night.  Beth suggested that the townsfolk all gather in the newly renovated Victoria Square just before midnight to see the new year in together.  It was fun to stand in the bandstand in the cold (-9, I think) and make lots of noise.
There was a big clock to help countdown the minutes.

It was a great idea for a community event and I hope it is repeated in years to come.  Thank you Beth for all the amazing things you make happen here in Amherst, Nova Scotia.
Happy New Year everyone!

  1. What a lovely way to bring in the New Year. It's a nice way to meet neighbours too. We had a very quiet evening watching TV - inside where it's warm. ;-)

  3. Happy New Year Karen! I may be making a few more trips to Amherst in the future. My niece, Katherine, will start her pharmacy career there in June and will be moving from Halifax to Amherst. We will miss her so much but Amherst is where her heart (and horse) is.

  4. Hi Karen,
Thank you for coming out & having fun New Year's Eve in the square! As someone said of the night, " It was fun, for no particular reason". That is always the best kind ! I am very fortunate to have your creativity and sense of fun in our community. You have taught me a lot about trying things and see what happens. Without people like you, I would not have had the courage to try to have a event- just for fun! May you And your family have a fun and joyous New Year! Beth
