"Santa's Trip Around The World" by Wendy

A few years' back I designed this simple wallhanging depicting Santa Claus' annual Christmas Eve voyage. It seemed appropriate to have the jolly old elf appliquéd on a Trip Around The World background. When Wendy from North Bay emailed the pictures of her Yuletide Jewel she mentioned she was stuck on the quilting of this design. So I sent off some closeups of the quilting done on the original wallhanging. The blocks are quilted in curved lines, the outer border is scrolls, and the appliquéd shapes are each outlined in stitching. The thread used is gold Fine Metallic by YLI. It was enough information to get Wendy inspired to quilt her piece. It turned out beautifully. Wendy also chose to use a metallic thread, and her border scrolls turned out very nicely. The key to success in using metallics is to ensure you have a needle with a large eye so the thread does not fray and break.Wendy writes this: Thank you sew much for sharing your expertise with me on finishing this wallhanging. It has sat on the shelf until I felt I had enough knowledge and practicing to complete it. I did not feel until now I could do it. Your help made all the difference. I really want to enter it in our Quilt Show in 2013. Thanks for sharing these pictures of your work, Wendy. I felt like I was quilting right along with you throughout this project! If you would like to try your hand at Santa's Trip Around the World, you will find Pattern #206 on the checkout page of my website.
