First Big Snow

On Friday, we awoke to a winter wonderland.  Amherst had the distinction of receiving the most snow in the Maritimes for the day- 25 cm.  I am posting these pictures especially for Jennifer in New South Wales, who has recently returned from a trip to Canada but did not get to experience anything beyond a few flurries.  I had my fingers crossed that there would be a major snowfall just for Jennifer while she was here, but it didn't happen.  Jennifer, you'll have to make do with a few shots of our backyard...and Polly.
The snow was very wet and heavy, which made for hard shovelling.  With the accompanying wind, we also suffered quite a few broken branches

The snow is so beautiful; I just love it.
Our birch tree did not fare well at all.
It fell on top of the holly bushes, which - under the snow - are covered in red berries, which the birds enjoy.

Across the street, the neighbour's tall spruce trees look like a Christmas card photo.

With Christmas lights now lit, the snow is certainly putting us in the holiday spirit.

Snow Challenge

Yesterday we finally got our street widened from the last big snowfall to two lanes and this morning we woke to...more snow, more school and business cancellations, and more shoveling!

The mailman has only made it here once since last Thursday and when he did, he brought a lovely surprise.  It's a copy of my book, signed by all the wonderful folks from AQS who had a hand in it.  What a special keepsake, and such a thoughtful gesture on the publisher's part.
You can order a copy of Quilting Beauties here (but it may be delayed a day or so because of snow!)

Snow Fun

We got a bit of snow last night.  According to CTV News, Amherst took top spot in the snowfall, with 65 cm down so far!  It's going to be awhile before the car is dug out.

 My sewing room window:
Polly is not a bit impressed with the view from the living room window.  This is the amount of snow on our front walk.  Hubby has suggested it would be easier to move the mailbox than to clear the walk!

Christmas Inside/Out...

It feels like we're in a  bit of a time warp.  Outside it looks like Christmas...we've had so much snow this week it's unreal.  Can you see my neighbour's black cap near the top of this photo?
Here's a close-up, you can see his cap to the right and top of the picture below.  That's how high our snowbanks are!
It isn't very safe for little kitties to be outside so ours are only allowed out with an adult present.
Maddie wasn't sure what to make of these snow mountains!
Inside, it's been feeling like Christmas as well with all these gorgeous seasonal Hoffman prints on my table.
Yesterday I watched the women's hockey game between Canada and the U.S. and in the excitement sewed so fast I got my blocks all done.  Yay Canada, a great game and a well deserved gold medal!
This afternoon our men's hockey team plays the U.S. in the semi-finals;  if the pace is as lively as yesterday I am hoping the blocks will be joined together by games end.  The coach's good advice to his team today? :
