A Treat

In a day of trick-or-treating, I received this lovely photo which is absolutely the latter.

This is the first picture of a completed piece from last weekend's Maritime Beauty workshop in O'Leary P.E.I., and what a beauty it is!.   Louise Hardy has arranged her colours skillfully to have her green bowties form a wreath.  This is going to be stunning on a festive table.  Louise's choice of a green binding ties her colours together nicely (and what a great job on that binding, those inside corners are perfect!)

Louise writes, "I am really pleased with how it turned out.  Your directions were great; I enjoyed the class very much and meeting you."

I enjoyed meeting you and your guild too, Louise, and can't wait to see more pictures from the day.

Visiting The Northern Lights

This past weekend I had the pleasure of visiting the Northern Lights Quilt Guild in O'Leary, Prince Edward Island.  It was overcast and very grey when we crossed the Confederation Bridge;  sky and water were practically indistinguishable.

 The Island, however, was beautifully clad in fall colours.

 Our accommodations were as beautiful inside as they were outside.

Friday night's Trunk Show and Saturday's workshop were both held in a lovely room at the Community Centre. The guild is very fortunate to have such a terrific space, with attached kitchen facilities, and wi-fi in the building. We had a full class working on Maritime Beauties.

These pictures are of the beginning of the projects;  I *know* the students will send along pictures of their finished pieces! :)

 Lillian brought her lovely little Featherweight, a perfect machine for foundation piecing.

 It's always so fun to see the different colour combinations.  There were lots of batiks being used.

 A couple of the students chose to use Christmas prints.

 How gorgeous is this, with the blocks all laid out and ready to join.

It was a lovely trip, and I look forward to seeing pictures of the finished Beauties. A sincere thank you to the Northern Lights Guild for your welcoming hospitality!

September's Embers

September has been an amazingly jam-packed month.  In addition to lots of new stitching projects, it has included returning youngest to university, taking off the honey and starting fall feeding for the bees, preparing a booth for Fibre Arts Festival, getting a twin-sized quilt finished for publication in Quilter's Connection magazine, and even a short get-away with hubby.  This past weekend, Mrs. Pugsley's Emporium was a vendor at the Sunrise Quilt Guild Show in Tatamagouche, and I went along to help.  There is never a dull moment with Mrs. P: Beth booked us a caboose at the Train Station Inn.

How fun is that?

 You could climb up in the little cupola and get a great view.

The caboose had two bedrooms, and all the comforts of home...albeit on a somewhat reduced scale.

My room had a queen-sized bed and a fireplace; there's even a big TV hiding behind those doors.

The pillowcases were a nice touch. 

I bought a pair in the gift shop as a souvenir. (I did not steal the pillowcases, Cheryl!! :))

The quilt show was just across the road at the Fraser Cultural Centre.  The Sunrise Quilt Guild may be small in numbers but they are certainly big on talent.

The quilts were fabulous, and it was extra special to have so many of the guild members on-hand for the entire show to talk about their quilts.

Deb Plestid is a member of this guild and she had several extraordinary pieces on display.

Member Grace made a trip home to bring in her Maritime Beauty to show me. She had just pieced this, it's waiting to be quilted.  Gorgeous work, Grace - I love the colours you chose!

I hope now to stitch out the month so should have some finished pieces to show you soon!
