A Visit To Clare

On Friday, Mrs. P. (a.k.a. Beth) and I loaded up and headed down for a visit and trunk show with La Guilde Acadienne de Clare.  Located in Saulnierville, Nova Scotia, this vibrant guild has just celebrated its second anniversary.

It's a long drive from home - a little over 5 hours - but really easy to tell when you've arrived as the church is hard to miss.  We had to stand waaaaaay back with our cameras to get it all in the frame!

We were headed next door to the parish hall, where the guild meets.

We set up our display on Friday night to be all ready to go first thing Saturday morning.  Mrs. Pugsley's Emporium brought fabric, thread, and batting and I had patterns for sale.

We stayed in a cottage at a lovely spot on Mavillette Beach.  It was clean and comfortable and the owners very friendly.  They generously supplied us with homemade biscuits to go with our breakfast.

 Of course Beth and I took turns climbing into the huge Adirondack chair at the end of the drive.  Sitting in that chair made me think of Lily Tomlin's 'Edith Ann' character.

We headed back to Saulnierville bright and early Saturday morning.  It was a wonderful day spent with this energetic and welcoming group of women.  At lunchtime, they treated us to a special meal of Acadian delights at the restaurant across the street.  At day's end they generously presented both Beth and I with a beautiful framed print by local Acadian artist Denise Comeau entitled "Courtepointes" which of course translates to "quilts".

The highlight of the trip was being presented with an honourary membership to La Guilde Acadienne de Clare.  I am indeed honoured and will wear my guild pin with pride.

The three days away were shrouded in fog and rain and mist but the weather did not dampen any of the fun with this very hospitable group.  We left with many new friends.  A very sincere thank you is extended to La Guilde Acadienne de Clare.
