These are German Bearded Iris in our garden. The heads grow so large that the stalks bend and break under their weight. They look as though they are stitched from velvet.

Sew much fabric...
On today's design wall is a funky New York Beauty which should use about 400 different fabrics by the time it is finished. The funny thing about making these blocks is they never seem to make a dent in the scrap pile - there's as much fabric left at the end of the project as there is at the beginning. The only rule for this one is "no florals".
